Key Equipment in Asuncion, Paraguay

Between 8 and 11 December will be held in Asuncion, Paraguay City Regional Meeting of Country Coordinating Mechanisms (CCMs) and Regional Coordinating Mechanisms (RCMs) of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The meeting's objective is to strengthen these mechanisms of governance at national level which are crucial for the proper functioning of Global Fund grants.

The Global Fund is an organization that collects and distributes resources additional to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in developing countries. Since its creation in 2002 signed grants of $ 16,100 million in 140 countries. The Global Fund uses performance-based funding and to date all orders funded technically sound evidence-based interventions.

One of its most important features is its governance structure that responds faithfully to the partnership approach to public and Private, recreating spaces where decisions are made between governments, civil society (in particular those most affected), agencies of the United Nations, academia and the private sector. This structure exists in the national (MCPs) and at the regional level there must be a regional grant (MCRs), while the highest governing body of the Global Fund is the World Board.

This initiative promotes programs to be developed, implemented and monitored by the countries. They are the MCPs who approved the requests and monitor their programs to be successful. That is why there is no local presence of officials of the Fund in any country. The Fund is only responsible for channeling resources. The technical aspects are borne by the Global Fund's partners, including agencies of the United Nations System and the World Health Organization and UNAIDS. There are also other strategic partners from the central countries as Backup Initiative of the German Government (GTZ) and a number of NGOs and initiatives.

Between theory and practice there is a great distance, so since its inception CCMs are responsible for more than one sleepless. There is a wide range of challenges in CCMs mainly related to participation, good governance, transparency, conflict of interest, among others. This event aims to unlock some of these bottlenecks MCPs pursuing stronger result.

Among the different values \u200b\u200bthat are raised by the Fund in its creation are the three fundamental pillars: a significant multi-sectoral participation, local ownership and alignment with national programs. To achieve this, we need bound MCPs where the dialogue flow and where each sector can provide the perspective of their constituents to ensure effective and efficient programs that will save more lives.

This meeting will cover CCM / MCRs of America South. In 2010, similar events will be held in Central America and the Caribbean. For more information about Global visit www.theglobalfund.org/es/
